Sucanat is a non-refined sweetener made from sugar cane. It's brown color is from molasses, as white sugar has the molasses removed. It is essentially pure dried sugar cane juice. Sucanat has a long shelf-life. It keeps at temperatures between 40-100 degrees. It may get hard with improper storage (like not closing the bag to keep in the moisture). But roll the bag and it should become softened again.
